The Pennymen
ANIMATION
In the entrance hall of Industry Service Cinema, youβll find our βFilm Mennekesβ, a playful and imaginative art installation that takes you on a journey through a world of tiny projection technicians. Using a combination of live-action footage and intricate models, "Film Mennekes" tells the story of the little men who work behind the scenes at the cinema.
As you explore the installation, you'll discover a miniature world where the Mennekes are constantly on the move, loading reels of film and making sure everything runs smoothly.

Behind the scenes
principal photography
Many of the live-action elements, including the performances of the tiny men, were shot on theaterstage the βBlauwe Keiβ at the Noordkade, giving them a unique and authentic quality. Even smaller details like a flying kite and rolls of film were also shot for real, adding to the sense of whimsy and wonder that pervades the installation.
But what really sets "Film Mennekes" apart is the special technique that's being used to give the tiny men their three-dimensional quality. By capturing and reprojecting a unique lighting technique that uses the real-world geometry of the decor, the tiny men appear to come off the wall and almost feel tangible.
